Enchanted Kingdom Experience

$

This post is already a long overdue. Mommy already made a post on this as part of Matt’s school field trip. I will just share my experience at Enchanted Kingdom.

After entering the gate, the Grand Carousel welcomes us and this was our first ride. Matt loves riding the carousel. Mommy was a bit afraid because of motion sickness but she comes with us too. Sayang din kasi binayad.Hindi naman pala nakakahilo.” claimed by Mommy after we alight.

We took a walk to look for the other amenities. Then we saw the Rock Quarry. While Matt and Mommy are waiting in line for Matt's turn, I take a peek and play fishing where I got Nemo.

Then we took the train - Boulderville Express.

Carousel and Boulderville Express

Time for the Wheel of Fate or the giant Ferris Wheel. Actually, I got phobia in riding Ferris wheel due to childhood experience but it is time to conquer my fear of heights.

At first, the ride was smooth but after two turns, the wheel stopped for loading and unloading of some passengers that had finished their turn. Guess where we are? Half-way going up! This triggers my fear again.

Wheel of Fate

After few moments, it moved and and stopped when we are at the topmost part of the wheel. Matt kept on moving that made the gondola to swing back and forth. Samahan pa ng force ng hangin. My fear started to grow more and tried not to move. This is the reason why I cannot take a good shot of the views below.

I only felt relieved when the wheel moves again and we are just near the unloading part.

It was a great experience and I might take that ride once we visited the place again.

Views from the Top

Then, I asked Mommy if we can have a ride on the Flying Fiesta. She declined but allows me to go by myself. I made a hurry to catch before the next round.

When it started to move, I thought of asking the operator to stop because I am starting to get scared again. Scared that the chain might snapped off and throw me away. But asking the operator seem impossible, so I prayed that no bad thing to happen.

Wave Swinger

As the ride moves, my fear seems to vanish and started to enjoy. After few minutes, I thought of taking another round.

After the thrilling experience at Wave Swinger

After those rides, we took rest while Matthew returned playing the Rock Quarry.

Our tummy started to look for something to eat but the prices of the food is almost 50% higher than the regular price to we just ended eating outside the park. Still a bit expensive especially the drinks like mineral water that costs 35 pesos for 355ml.

For those who wants to go there, be sure you have lots of food and drinks in the vehicle. You can go back to your car anytime as long as you have the stamp on you.

We took a rest on one of the benches enjoying the Christmas songs and the cool breeze of the wind while waiting to the fire works display. Sorry for the blurry photo. I used the front cam on night mode of my phone.

With this trip I guess it is not Matt who enjoyed more. Guess who?

Time to have a solo pic.

Captured Moments: Rizal's Tallest Statue in the World

Rizal Shrine of Nueva Vizcaya

Jose Rizal is considered as Philippines' National Hero.  At first, his tallest monument is located at Brgy. Casat, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. However, Jose Rizal is considered as "the greatest son" of Calamba, Laguna, they need to break the record and the tallest statue must be located in the said town.
The government of Laguna made the Tallest Rizal Monument and unveils on June 19, 2011 during his 150th birth anniversary.
The statue is sculpted by Toym Imao and situated in a park known as The Plaza in front of Calamba City Hall Complex in Barangay Real.
It is placed on top of a 2.8 meter podium consisting of 15-step stairway which symbolizes one decade since Rizal was born in 1861.
It also has a granite pedestal of 7.87 feet and a 13.12 feet circular stairway base. The monument's total height is 43 feet (equivalent to a four-storey building) and weighs 2 tons.
Jose Rizal's Tallest Monument
"The statue depicts Rizal holding a book in his right hand and is made of bronze. It stands 22 feet (6.7 meters) which symbolizes the 22 languages and dialects Rizal mastered during his time such as Spanish, English, German, Japanese, Chinese and others."(Wikipedia)

Here are other framed images of the statue.

Family Day Sundays: WOF + Marian Exhibit

Matt's Current Grades (Momaye's Diary)
Last Sunday, as promised to our Little Boss, we will treat him for the good grades he received after their 3rd quarter.

According to his teacher, he leaped 2 notches from his previous rank, 8th to 6th. Though he is not in the honor’s list (they only announced the first five), we are still proud of what he did. I heard that he is just 0.05 behind to be part of the top five.

Here's a note from his adviser - if he performs more this quarter, he might be included in the honor’s list in their final ranking.

I believe that putting pressure on him is a NO-NO. Ranking is not important to us. As long as we observe improvement and he learns a lot, that will be more than enough.

First, we attended the mass at Sta. Maria. Before the mass ends, there was an announcement that a Marian Exhibit is currently held in the church vicinity. I asked mommy if we can take a peek. I only took couple of pictures using phone since I left my camera at home.

We took our lunch at KFC Waltermart but Matt asked if he can have a burger from Jollibee. As a reward, I grant his request with an additional sundae.

Mommy and Matt while waiting for the requested burger.

After finishing our meals, we rushed to what Matt is waiting for – World of Fun where he enjoys bowling and basketball games. Of course, his dad enjoys more and this is the reason why I didn't have any photos. Hehehe.

After the tiring but fun activities, we headed back home and take some rest. Since Mommy is not feeling well, I cooked “Arrozcaldo Overload” for our dinner.

Before ending this post, here's a video of Matt singing another OPM song.

And that's how our weekend was.

Magnetic Bracelet and Its Health Benefits(?)

Magnetic Bracelets (Me, Mommy and Matt)
Last Sunday night, while arranging the buttons we bought at Divisoria, I saw the elastic string I bought to be use in repairing the magnetic bracelet I kept in the closet for several years.

Since there are no crochet orders at the moment, I started doing my magnetic bracelet. I added some metallic beads which I bought the last time we visited Divisoria. There are there are some spare pieces so I made another two for Mommy and Matt.

Few years ago, wearing such accessories is not only for fashion but for medical purposes called magnetic therapy. This has been popular in ancient times especially in Egypt. They believe that this can help improve one’s health.

I searched the net if wearing such accessories can really bring health benefits and here’s what I got:

“Magnetic fields upon the body help to energize and boost the rate of circulationstimulating nutrient rich blood flow thus invigorating your metabolism by oxygenating the organs providing muscle and tissue more oxygen for mental and physical vigor while accelerating the ridding of body wastes, flushing out unwanted toxins, releasing more endorphins, the body's natural pain killers promoting repair and stimulating faster healing; improving the bodies anti-infective activity and enhancing immunity; normalizes endocrine production by helping to regulate and balance endocrine functions; affecting enzyme production for reducing swelling, stiffness and the acidity from wounds helping in reducing inflammation; stimulating collagen density in and around joints proven in studies to heal bones and joints faster and to help alleviate chronic pain and invigorate overall well-being." (Vital Wonders)

However, these claims are not yet proven scientifically. Although there are studies that wearing magnetic bracelet helps reduce pains of patients suffering from hip and knee osteoarthritis, there is still no clear evidence if this is due to the magnet or just part of the placebo effect.

Our Magnetic Bracelets
For me, wearing such accessories is just part of fashion. The black shimmering color gives a nice effect. If the claims are true, that will just be a secondary benefit.

Do you also wear such magnetic accessories?

Last Sunday, our new kasambahay ask to have her day-off. We grant her request but asked her to come back at 6 pm. It was already past 7 when Mommy asked where she is. We never received any response from her so Mommy called but she refused to answer but texted like this: “Ate, hindi ko po kaya ung trabaho.” After two weeks of working with us, she quits the job for one reason – “Akala ko po magbabantay lang ako kila Matthew and Nanay. Akala ko po hindi ako maglalaba at magluluto.”

Before hiring her, we already gave instructions on what be her tasks which includes not only taking care of Matthew and MIL, but includes laundry and cooking breakfast. "Kasambahay talaga." And with full of confidence, she accepts the duty. “Kaya ko naman po.” Also, she was trained by SIL for a week on what to do which means she has all the knowledge of all her assignments.
To cut the story short, we have no other choice but for Mommy to take temporary leave for work since we cannot find someone with that very short notice.

Source: Derby Frontier

Mommy is already considering the option of quitting her job and will be the one to take care of the two. Though I didn’t show nor tell Mommy, I am also afraid if we can survive with only me working for us.

We still have remaining two years to pay for our house, monthly bills, daily expenses, tuition fee, and other financial obligations. If we rely solely on my salary, it is just enough to pay our house’s monthly amortization. Though we have some savings, it may be dissolve too.

There are also many options where we can earn. We have our online shoppe, Mommy can work at home, we can start our dream sari-sari store but earning from these is not as stable as our job.

To answer the title of this blog post, I think we are not yet. However, I pray and hope that this is just part of the trials and we can survive all these with the help of HIM.
Source: Keep Calm-O-Matic
Yes, HE responded to our prayers, SIL agreed to stay with us for several months until we find the right kasambahay and yesterday, she already arrived at home while Mommy returned to work today.

Brother DCP-J100
One day, Matt has an assignment. He needs to paste a family picture in their workbook.

Though we have lots of family pics in my camera, we have no printer at home. The only one available is already placed in a photo frame and he was two months old.

No choice but to get that photo and used it for his homework.

With this, we decided to buy one so when the time Matt needs printing works for his school projects and activities, we will not encounter the same problem.

Mommy is also thinking of accepting made-to-order (MTO) invitations where a nice printer is a must.

After searching for some models and brands, reading reviews and feed backs, I finally made a choice for the right unit. I choose the Brother DCP-J100 3-in-1 printer (scanner, printer and photocopier).

I picked this brand and model mainly because the ink cartridge is individually installed. Once you ran out of one color, you can purchase the cartridge for that particular color alone unlike other brands that you have to buy one cartridge with three colors even other colors are still available.

The printer will run even  only the black cartridge isinstalled.

Interior of Brother DCP-J100 printer

Scanning is also easy. Just press the scan button, pick for the scanning method. It will automatically connect to the computer and just press the start button, colored or graysacle, for the scanning to proceed . Scanning methods are: scan to e-mail, scan to file or scan to image.

Ink cartridge installed individually and scanning options

With the photocopier, you can directly choose enlarger or reducer from 100% to 47% or fit to page. It can perform photocopying up to 99 pages per run. Some units are limited to 20 pages per run only.

Enlarge and reduce option

The unit is connected to the computer via USB port attached inside the printer right under the scanning/photocopying platform. Storing of the connector when not in use is not a problem. There is an ample space beside the port where you can place the cord.

It has a detachable paper rack. Just place the paper and you’re on the go.

Aside form these features, here are the other specifications of the printer:

Republic Act 10586: Anti-Drunk/Drugged Driving Act

$

On my way to Tarlac last Thursday, there's a heavy traffic approaching Angeles Exit. This scenario is unusual unless there is an on-going road repair or an accident. On the site, a delivery truck that completely turned was trying to put in place by a crane.

What are the common reasons for such road mishaps here in our country?

Source: philStar.com
Topping the list is DRUNK DRIVING followed by over speeding, mechanical malfunctions, lost brakes, overtaking, abrupt maneuvers, and bad turns and reverse. (MoneyMax.ph)

Since Drunk Driving is the most common reason for road accidents, the government has released the Republic Act 10586 or know as Anti-Drunk/Drugged Driving Act. The main goal of this act is to protect the motoring public and ensure safety of the pedestrians. Penalties are also made steeper like 3 months to 20 year in prison, fine of 20,000 to 500,000 pesos, and a suspension or permanent revocation of driver's license.

Here is an inforgraphic on what you should know about the said act.

Despite this act and its penalties, I still hear high numbers of drunk-driving related accidents. In my opinion, it needs awareness and campaigns like billboards, flyers and infomercials. Some ads like the Top 10 Most Chilling Anti-Drinking and Driving Acts released by DUI Lawyers of New York can be a great help to reduce or possibly eliminate drunk driving road accidents.

Do you have any idea on how to disseminate the said act?

The Kid Who Loves To Draw

From the Little Prince (Elephant ate by Boa)
Since the age of three, he started to draw. There are times I cannot figure out what are in his paper pads until he claims it to be cars, trees, flowers, and even his favorite super heroes like Iron Man and Spider Man.

Naalala ko tuloy ang “The Little Prince”. A kid draws something and asks adults what it is. All replied it was a hat. But the kid told then it was a boa constrictor that ate an elephant.

With this here are some tips I can share on how to develop your kid’s ability to draw based from own experience.

Introduce at young age.
Learning at young age is a good option. This will help them develop their grip on writing instruments.

As early as age of two, we introduced pen and papers to Matt. Also, one of her Ninangs send a Mega Sketchers where he started to develop his drawing skills.

Restrain disappointments.
We, parents, are the main model of our kids. Show them that you are confident in your drawings even you are not good in this area. When they approach you and asked to draw something, telling “Hindi ko kaya yan. (I can’t draw that)” in front of them is a NO-NO.

Drawing is not my forte but when Matt asked me to draw Iron Man or the members of Avengers; I tried to do it kahit malayo sa katotohanan. I observed that as I draw, he take a very close look as I draw. He is getting every detail of what I did. After few minutes, he will do it by himself and copied what I drew.

The Avengers (Matt's Drawing)

Appreciate their work.
Giving appreciation with their work is one of the best encouragement that you can give your kids. However, you should not end up by saying: “Ang ganda naman nyan!” (That’s very nice!) or “Ang galing mo naman!” (You did great!) but try to elaborate what you want to say.

In this drawing, have you noticed why Iron Man is lying above the other members of Avengers? His explanation is: “Lumilipad si Iron Man”. Instead of commenting, “Ang galing mo naman”, Mommy and I will simply tell him, “Wow! Ang galing naman ni Iron Man, lumilipad pa!” Then we will give some suggestions like “Lagyan mo pa ng clouds at birds para talagang lumilipad sya.”

Iron Man and Spiderman

Let them explore.
Kids are very curious about many things. This is part of their development. Like in drawing, let them use things other than pencil and crayons. Try to incorporate using other things like watercolors, modelling clays and color pens. Use non-toxic materials for safety.

Now, we are only using crayons and pens. We are thinking of getting him watercolors for him to explore his skills this summer vacation.

Another is to let him do other means to draw. For example, have a subject to copy.

Iron Man as his Model

Use instructional videos
Having such learning tools will also help. There are lots of such videos in Youtube.

Just like the other day, Mommy and I were surprised how he draw Lightning McQueen. Parang nagdoo-doodle lang. Her Tita Rona told us he got those techniques by watching Youtube in TV. By the way, watching Youtube is a reward for taking home two big stars from school. Look at the video below.

Here are other of his drawings.
Francesco

Ligthning McQueen

I hope he will continue his interest in drawing and arts.

Matt used to take home two small stars in three consecutive days. According to her Tita, he didn’t behave well in class. Matt is still playful and usually provoked by playful classmates too.

To keep him behave in class, we made an agreement. If he brought home big stars for the whole week, he will get a treat - playing in “Balong Malalim”. Also, Matt and her Tita Rona made an agreement that if he fails to brought home big stars, the Youtube application on TV will be removed.

The following day, Matt’s teacher was surprised. He behave well in school and from then on he keeps on bringing home two big stars daily for two consecutive weeks.

To fulfill my promise, last Sunday after attending the mass, we brought him to Waltermart-Sta. Maria and let him played in "Balong Malalim”. Look how happy he was.

I Need Motivation

A throwback photo (taken 2007)
At the start of the year, one of my goals is to loose some pounds. From my current weight of 82 kilos, I want to target the 72-kilo mark or at least like the one in the picture.

On the first two weeks, I was very eager and motivated to do some cardio and belly toning activities like dancing, push-ups and crunches. I also reduced my rice intake to lessen the calories I had.

After that first two weeks, I notice some changes. My biceps and shoulders started to have shape, my tummy shows somewhat an improvement.

As of the moment, I am starting to my loose interest in doing those activities. I seems hard for me to wake up early (4am) for the exercise. Though I can survive with the diet, the effect is not that much.

Last year, Mommy and I planned to purchase running shoes and do jogging or running for at least 30 minutes a day. But this didn’t materialized due to some priorities.

This month, these running shoes are already in our list. However, even we have this new pair of footwears, I still NEED MOTIVATIONS to continue doing this activity attain my weight goal. And once I reached my goal, I want to help and motivate others too. So I can be a true FITNESS CHAMP as the Fitness Influence Quiz claimed. You can try the quiz too.

For now, the only motivation I have are my clothes especially those pair of pants in our closet. I want to return into that built and waistline.

I still have nine months to reach my goal and i know I can make it! AJA!

Re-visiting Elementary Alma Mater

Chemist Dad as the Guest Speaker
Just before the Lenten season started, I was invited to re-visit my Elementary Alma Mater and be part of their Graduation Ceremony as their Guest Speaker.

At first, I was hesitant to accept the invitation since I was not the valedictorian or salutatorian during our time.

After few moments of thinking, I decided to agree as their commencement speaker.

Of course, I need to know their theme first in order to create my speech. This is my first time to attend such event.

The theme “Saktong Buhay: Sa De-kalidad na Edukasyon Pinanday.” was given to be few days before the graduation day.

Though I already made a draft of my speech, I need to make few revisions to be make inline with the theme.

At first, I thought of making an English speech since it is bit easier for me to make one in this language but I opt to make it in Filipino.

Why? This is to make the audience understand more what I will talk about. Also, I want to make it simple and concise to avoid boredom especially the excited graduating students. Here's the content of my speech.

Teachers, Thank you very much!

Anu man ang naging estado nyo bilang mag-aaral, may honors man o wala.

At first I was shaky but as I go on, it subsided and I felt comfortable. Mama and Tito Boy noticed this. They said, the speech is good, maikli pero malaman.

After the event, I realized that you don’t need to be on the top of the class in order to give inspiration to others. Just like a quotation I read, “Honors and achievements are just accessories. It doesn’t tell who you really are.”

Here are some of the photos taken by Mommy. Taking photos near the stage is not allowed to prevent the place of being crowded. We didn't have selfie photos on the stage because we were invited immediately to proceed at the school canteen for lunch.

Are you familiar with the songs Qing Fei De Yi and Broken Vow?

How about the time when men let their hair grow long?

What about F4 and Barbie Hsu?

Or Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Xi Men, Mei Zuo and Shan Cai?

More than a decade ago, the first Asianovela, Meteor Garden, was aired in the Philippines and after few episodes, it was already a hit!

The story was lifted from the novel “Boys Over Flower” which eventually had a Koreanovela with the same title.

I was in my last days in college when this was shown in ABS-CBN. Being busy in completing the requirements for graduation, I didn't got any opportunity to watch even a single episode. Luckily, few month ago, I got a copy of complete episodes of season 1 which I am currently viewing during my spare time.

I remember my classmates used to call me "Dao" because of my last name. They pronounce it in slang - Instead of "Domencil" they slangy pronounce it as "Dao-men-si".

I was already half-way and I am looking forward to the dramatic season – Meateor Garden Book 2. Hoping to get a copy of this too.

Are you hooked this telenovela too?

Holy Week Staycation

The Lenten week started on Palm Sunday. It was already a tradition for us to attend the mass on this day. Reviewing the years, I realized that we haven’t attended the same church for this event for four consecutive years already. We visited Baclaran Redemptorist Church, Divine Mercy National Shrine of Marilao, Imaculate Concepcion of Sta. Maria and Our Lady of Fatima Church (Heritage Homes, Marilao) in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively. I guess I have to think another church for next year’s Palm Sunday.

Palm Sunday

On the next three days (Monday to Wednesday), we still go to work since it was not yet a holiday though some already started their long-week vacation.

On Maundy Thursday, we still need to work on one batch of MTO since it is needed on April 10. I started fixing Jaby (red motorcycle) but didn’t finished it. There is a spare part that needs to be replaced but I cannot find a store to buy it. I also prepared homemade taho and baked lengua de gato which the later Matt claimed to be one of his favorites after having few bites.

On Good Friday, as our tradition, everyone must be at home and doing nothing. We planned to have visit Sta. Maria Bulacan and witness the procession of different saints. Due to very hot weather, I decided not to go, baka mag-collapse ako sa sobrang init.

On Black Saturday, instead of heading to a resort, Matt enjoyed playing in his pool while we fixed stuff in the kitchen and garage to get rid of the unused things and put them in the garbage. Luckily, there is a bakal-bote roaming where we sold those supposed to be garbage.

On Easter Sunday, we attended the mass and have some grocery afterwards. I want to let Matt attend and experience Easter Egg Hunting activities but we are far from the places with the said events.

I also made Mango-Graham Ice Cream but didn’t make to our afternoon snack. Malambot pa kasi.

Before I forgot, I started making amigurumi samples. This will be included in the list of made-to-order souvenirs in our Mom and Dad Crochet Shop.

With the almost 5-day vacation, I realized that it is better stay at home and have a recharge to face the stressful, I assume, condition at work. LOL.

Recipes of taho, lengua de gato and mango-graham ice cream will be posted at Our Family Blogs About soon.

How about you, how did you spend your vacation?

Summer Outfits for Men

I am not a fashionista. Simple jeans, shirt and shoes will to my OOTD as long as I am wearing a clothes that I am comfortable with.

Though I don't care what to is in or not, I believe that men should also have a sense of being fashionista from time to time. Outfits that suits with the season from head to foot must be considered rather than ending into the so-called “tiis-ganda” situation men style.

Here are some things we need to consider in wearing this summer season.

Tops:
Wearing light-colored tops made of light fabrics is great.

Light-colored clothes tend to bounce heat away from the body unlike dark ones that absorb and retain the heat creating hotter feeling.

Cotton clothes are slightly discouraged because of its good absorbing property. This tends to hold sweat leaving you like a sponge which eventually trap heat generated by the body.

Bottoms:
Cargo shorts can be a nice option this summer especially during travel time. Though skinny pants for men is a fashion trend nowadays, wearing such clothing is not recommended. This will only give you the feeling of being squeezed.

Like tops, there are also light-fabric shorts and pants available in the market. Camouflage and khaki is a nice option too.

Footwears:
Better look for socks made out of light and thin fabrics but try to avoid nylon fabrics. Wearing ankle-length socks is also a great choice.

 Fabric Sneakers (Source: WINTERFASHIONS.NET)

Sneaker shoes is a great and healthy option. These can be easily taken off to have your feet breathe for a while. Also, sneakers made of fabric can give a better ventilation compared to synthetic or genuine leathers. See this link for a wide collection of sneakers for men.

Again, whether summer or other season, wearing clothes is not a problem as long as you are comfortable.

How about you, what are your summer outfit ideas for men?

SEPTEMBER

I got a chance to re-visit Rizal's house with a side trip to Calamba Baywalk. On Matthew's field trip, we are supposed to visit the house but we arrived late of the time agreed in the said location. Blame it to EDSA's traffic jam!

DECEMBER

This has been the most awaited month of the year because of the Holiday Season.

Before the season’s celebration, we visited some places in Laguna on Matt's School Field trip. This is also my first time in Enchanted Kingdom. I will make a separate story on this.

Parties everywhere.

I also got a second item on my wishlist - a new TV set that replaces our 4-year-old CRT TV. The third item might be on my birthday.

But above of all, we celebrated the most important person in this month – the birth of Jesus Christ. On this day, we went to Divine Mercy Shrine in Sta. Rosa, Marilao, Bulacan. This was the only place we visited that day.

Matt was very happy to see Santa throwing goodies at the terrace after the last morning mass.

Though there are many challenges encountered,  I still am very thankful for the year 2014. I just kept on being positive that we can handle it with the help of HIM. And just like the old saying: "Ang problema, parang bisita lang yan. Nakikiraan lang bahay, hindi nakikitira." Just walk by faith.

That’s how my 2014 was and looking forward to a very prosperous 2015!
